Reframing Public Participation

I hate to bump Harry's inspiring post, but someone has to eventually, right?

I came across a really interesting article written by Judith Innes, UC Berkeley, and David Booher, California State University. The title is "Reframing Public Participation: Strategies for the 21st Century" It is not only an interesting critique of currently mandated participation methods but offers suggestions for improvement.   1. This is a really useful critique, Cassandra, one that we might want to use as the basis for an upcoming meeting of the learning community. While it is primarily expressing concerns about how so-called public participation processes fall short of their proferred goals, the latter half of the article expresses some positive opportunities that arise in genuine collaborative participation efforts such as those we are trying to promote in our training here at UW. Let's schedule this for an upcoming meeting of the LC... OK?
